Ice Cube Announces BIG3 Will Hoop ‘Every Weekend All Summer Long’

By: Jonathan Eskin

“Today was a good day.”

That’s part of a famous lyric Ice Cube laid out in 1992. Fast forward 27 years, the rapper splashes again with his BIG3 basketball league. Dropping it likes it’s hot.

During the final game of the Lakers’ season, the co-founder and multi-talented artist publicized on Spectrum SportsNet, he plans on taking it to the “next level,” he said.

Ice Cube, a die-hard Laker fan and founding partner, Jeff Kwatinetz, who assists in running the rap mogul’s Cube Vision, plan to ball out in the near summer. Beginning June 22 it will be hoop time, on Saturdays and Sundays. Two nights instead of one night. Three games played per evening. The biggest move? A bolt from Fox to CBS, which will air prime time.

The three versus three, half-court competition showcasing retired NBA players, will feature new faces, new teams and new names, Ice Cube said. In particular, back-to-back champion Lamar Odom will make his return to the hardwood. Cube remarked, “Everyone wants him.”

Former Laker, Metta World Peace, will partake in the action joining “The Killer 3s.” And, Gilbert Arenas, known as Agent Zero in the NBA, will shake off retirement and lead the “Enemies.”  The addition of players expands the former eight-team league to 12 teams, splitting the league into two divisions.

The BIG3 basketball league appear to be in good hands. Clyde “The Glide” was tabbed Commissioner last year and former Raiders’ CEO Amy Trask was selected as Chairman of the Board.

NBA legend, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, will make his return to coaching. And, Nancy Lieberman is the first woman to head coach a men’s professional team – of any sport.  Winning the championship last season.

The schedule will be released shortly, goals to buy a regional sportsnet and a huge demand for the BIG3 basketball league.

Ice Cube’s made it – again. His vision is on point.

Yea e yea! (Cube talk)
