In 2009, when Rafe Offer invited friends over to his London flat for a low-key, intimate music gig to listen to live music performed by friend and musician Dave Alexander, it quickly went from a hobby to a global community for artists and audiences to come together in a unique and welcoming space. Sofar Sounds has made a name and business for itself by staging “secret gigs and intimate concerts” around Las Vegas and the world. Sofar Sounds features emerging artists for an invited, engaged audience and to share, discover, create and hopefully make a friend or find their new favorite band along the way.
Sofar transforms everyday spaces like a living room, backyard or retail space and turns it into a captivating venue for secret, live shows, creating an immersive experience that brings guests and artists closer together. Each Sofar is small, and typically features three diverse acts, with no headliner. Each lineup is hand-selected with diverse genres, so all the artists get equal attention. Guests are encouraged to arrive on time for the first act and stay through the entirety of the show.
Most shows are a lottery, and you can apply for tickets up until five days before the events, unless tickets are sold out. Sofar sends out emails letting you know if you’re invited to attend, if not, you are eligible to apply for future shows. If selected to attend a gig, Sofar will email you a day before the show with the address of the Sofar and if it’s BYOB. You won’t find out who’s playing until you get there.
Today, Sofar Sounds is a community of thousands of artists, hosts, fans, travelers and more, putting hundreds of secret, intimate events per month, across 447 cities around the world.
