One of the most popular games to have been created in recent years decided to collaborate with Marvel. On August 27th Fortnite released an all new story, ‘Nexus War’, that introduced Marvel characters into the world of the game. Fortnite is a battle royale style game. This means 100 players enter a match, and only 1 player will be crowned with the ‘victory royale.’ Fortnite is cross-platform, so it’s available on Xbox, Playstation, and PC. The introduction of Nexus War means that fans of Marvel and Fortnite can now battle as their favorite superheroes or villains.
What exactly is Nexus War? Marie Gooley, the author of ‘Explaining Marvel and Fortnite’s New Crossover: Nexus War’ said, “Combining Marvels continuity and famous characters, and Fortnite’s colorful landscapes, Nexus War brings players together to protect the multiverse from the villain, Galactus, who aims to devour the powerful energy from Fortnite’s island of Apollo.” The story includes popular characters like Storm, Thor, and Iron Man, and even Guardians of The Galaxy favorites Rocket and Groot. Players can suit up as these heroes, and help to save the island, all while competing for the title of champion.
In this crossover, fans will recognize famous comic book landmarks, like Stark Industries. Players can land at this famous Marvel landmark, and battle Iron Man himself. Iron Man is an in game boss fight. This means that if you choose to land at Stark Industries, you’ll have the opportunity to battle Iron Man.Heroes like Iron Man for example have powers that players can obtain from eliminating him. In order to earn Iron Man’s powers, players will have to battle Iron Man, and win. Upon doing that, his famous hand beams can be used in the game. One of the newest editions to in-game boss fights, is X-men favorite Wolverine. Players now have the opportunity to battle Wolverine, and earn his powerful claws for in-game use.
Players who are interested in Fortnite Nexus War should note that some of these perks come at a price. While anyone can use in game powers, and visit Marvel landmarks, only those who pay can play as Marvel characters. Fortnite uses a ‘Battle Pass’ system. Jordan Heck said, “The standard Fortnite Battle Pass costs 950 V-bucks (around $10). There’s a second option available, however, where you get the first 25 tiers of the Battle Pass unlocked. This will cost 2,800 V-bucks (around $25). The good news, though, is that within the Battle Pass you can earn up to 1,500 V-bucks by playing. So if you buy the standard edition and play through it, you’ll eventually earn your V-Bucks back, plus more.”
After purchasing the Battle Pass, players can then earn rewards for each level they complete, up to level 100. Each level has a special Marvel related item to unlock. Some levels may allow you to unlock characters. Other levels may unlock accessories like backpacks that your character can equip. Marvel fans may want to purchase the Battle Pass, in order to make the most out of their gaming experience. While there is no confirmed end date for this event, fans should take advantage of the Marvel and Fortnite crossover now.
